Adoption Process

*IMPORTANT*
From November 1, 2021 it is mandatory to register all cats and dogs at the vet within first 2 weeks since their arrival to the Netherlands. This applies only to the first registration of the microchip in the Netherlands. To do so, you need to apply for a free UBN number. More information on the website: https://www.rvo.nl/onderwerpen/agrarisch-ondernemen/dieren-houden/identificatie-en-registratie-dieren/honden

Please read the following information about the process, if you would like to foster or adopt a dog or a cat from us.

***Sadly we struggle with finding foster homes for cats and dogs in the Netherlands. It means that, though we try to avoid it as much as possible, sometimes there is no other option than adopt straight from our befriended rescuers. We are here to facilitate this process and in any case we always provide extended information about dog/cat in questions and arrange a vet check prior their journey. We are here to provide support and guidance, to the best of our knowledge and abilities, 24/7. If at any point you decide that you can no longer care for a dog/cat adopted from us, we will arrange re-homing.***

DOG ADOPTION:

1. ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE– if you are interested in adoption please drop us a message, so we can forward you an application form. We will then contact you once the form is received and reviewed, to discuss the possibilities in detail.
2. HOME CHECK – if we all think there is a good match, we will ask you for a video-chat or a video of your place, in order to do a home check and to see where the animal would live. We chose to do it this way due to covid-19 measures.
3. PRE-ADOPTION MEETING (if the dog is being fostered in the Netherlands) – if all goes good we will schedule the first meeting in our house, so you can get to know the dog you want to adopt. After that we ask you to take your time, think it through and get back to us within a couple of days to let us know if you want to continue. It can happen, depending on animal’s personality, that more than one pre-adoption meeting would be needed (e.g. if the animal is very scared/shy, displays behavioral problems- so the adopter has a chance to see what he/she is signing up for etc.).
4. ADOPTION – we bring the animal to your home, sign the adoption contract, ask you to pay non-refundable adoption fee and transfer microchip on your name.

  • The adoption fee can vary and depends on several factors (expenses made towards medical care and paperwork, cost of transport etc.).
  • All animals are vaccinated, spayed (unless too young), microchipped,  have passport, do not carry contagious diseases (unless mentioned otherwise).
  • In case of animals too young to be spayed prior adoption, we ask adopters for a deposit of 150EUR which will be fully return upon showing proof of the adopted animal being castrated/spayed. The sterilization/castration must take place as soon as the animal reaches the age acceptable to perform spaying.

CAT ADOPTION:

1. ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE– if you are interested in adoption please drop us a message, so we can forward you an application form. We will then contact you once the form is received and reviewed, to discuss the possibilities in detail.

3. ADOPTION– if all goes well, we schedule a meeting (in person, outside if more suitable due to Covid), this is to get to know each other and make sure that the adoption process is clear. We will set up a date of transport to the Netherlands. We will pick up a cat from the meeting point with transport services and bring him/her to your home upon his/her arrival to the Netherlands, sign an adoption contract and ask you to pay a non-refundable adoption fee.

We expect adopter(s) to be determined to make things work and don’t treat it lightly, since it’s a dog’s/cat’s life and wellbeing at stake.
